Questions & Answers

What is Botox?

Botox is the brand name for botulinum toxin, a protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is known for its ability to temporarily paralyze or weaken muscles by blocking the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter. This effect is used in medicine for various purposes, particularly in the treatment of muscle spasms, migraines, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), and certain neurological disorders. In aesthetic medicine, Botox is often used to treat wrinkles and fine lines on the face. By relaxing the muscles responsible for the formation of wrinkles, Botox can reduce the appearance of forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, and other age-related lines. However, the effect is temporary, and treatment must be repeated at regular intervals. It is important to note that the use of Botox, whether for medical or aesthetic purposes, should be performed by qualified professionals to ensure that it is safe and effective. Side effects can occur, and improper application can lead to undesirable results.

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid, also known as hyaluronan or hyaluron, is a clear, slimy substance that occurs naturally in the body. It belongs to the glycosaminoglycans, a group of macromolecules found in extracellular tissues, skin, joints, and eye fluids. Hyaluronic acid has the ability to bind large amounts of water, which contributes to its hydrating effect. This makes it an important component of the skin, where it helps to retain moisture and keep the skin plump and supple. Due to its moisturizing properties, hyaluronic acid is also used in the cosmetics and skin care industry. Hyaluronic acid is used in the form of creams, serums, and injections to moisturize the skin, smooth wrinkles, and promote a more youthful appearance. In medicine, hyaluronic acid is also used for various purposes, such as in orthopedics to treat joint diseases and improve joint mobility. Hyaluronic acid is also used in ophthalmology to replace or supplement eye fluid, especially in eye surgery or to treat dry eyes.

Does the injection hurt?

The pain sensation associated with a Botox injection can vary from person to person. However, it is often reported that the injections are minimally painful. This is because Botox is injected into the skin with a very fine needle, and the amount of product injected is usually small. Many doctors also use an anesthetic cream or cold spray before the Botox injection to minimize pain. In addition, some Botox products already contain local anesthetics to increase comfort during the procedure. Some people describe the sensation of the injection as a slight burning or stinging sensation, but this is short-lived. Most patients tolerate the treatment well. If you have concerns about pain, it is advisable to discuss this with your doctor. They may be able to offer options to make the process more comfortable for you.

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that uses tiny needles to create microscopic injuries in the skin. These small needle pricks stimulate the skin’s natural healing process, which leads to collagen production. Collagen is a protein that is responsible for the elasticity and firmness of the skin. The microneedling process can help improve the appearance of scars, fine lines, wrinkles, skin irregularities, and even pigmentation disorders. It is also used as a skin rejuvenation method to make the skin look firmer, more youthful, and fresher. Microneedling can be performed in professional skin care clinics or by certified dermatologists. There are also home devices for microneedling, but their use requires caution and should be done under the guidance of a professional. The procedure often begins with the application of an anesthetic or numbing cream to minimize pain. Then, a special device with fine needles is passed over the skin to create micro-injuries. After the treatment, redness, swelling, and slight bleeding may occur, but these usually subside quickly. It is important to note that microneedling is not suitable for everyone, and there are contraindications and risks associated with the treatment. It is recommended that you speak with a skincare professional before deciding on microneedling to determine if it is appropriate for your specific skin needs.
