Botox® – botulinum toxin treatment
Over time, pronounced facial expressions cause wrinkles to form on the forehead, around the mouth, and in the eye area. These expression lines are often perceived as bothersome because they make the face appear tense or tired, frequently causing the person to look older than they actually are or feel. Botulinum toxin treatment makes it possible to effectively reduce expression lines without extensive surgical intervention.
Botulinum toxin therapy can provide a smooth and rejuvenated appearance not only on the face, but also on the neck and décolletage. Additionally, the active ingredient helps with conditions such as chronic migraines.

What is botulinum toxin and how does it work?
In the context of aesthetic medicine, botulinum toxin type A is best known under the brand name Botox® from the pharmaceutical company Allergan. Today, there are many other manufacturers that produce botulinum toxin under various names for medical treatments.
Botulinum toxin is a structural protein derived from specific bacterial strains. In its pure form, it is also the strongest known neurotoxin. In medicine, highly diluted botulinum toxin has been used for years as a medication to treat various conditions. These include, in particular, neurological disorders and movement disorders (e.g., dystonia, spasticity), strabismus, hyperhidrosis, and migraine.
When it comes to wrinkle treatment, botulinum toxin works differently than fillers such as hyaluronic acid and similar products. While fillers plump up wrinkles from the inside out, botulinum toxin blocks the transmission of signals between nerves and muscles. As a result, the muscle no longer contracts—that is, it no longer tightens—and consequently, the facial muscles relax. Consequently, the corresponding wrinkle is no longer visible or barely noticeable.
Who is a good candidate for wrinkle treatment with Botox® in Berlin?
Botulinum toxin therapy is suitable for women and men who are bothered by expression lines on their face. Additionally, signs of aging on the neck and décolleté can be reduced through Botox® injections. Depending on the findings and within the scope of non-surgical options, the eyebrows can also be slightly lifted with Botox®, creating a youthful and fresh appearance.
What should be considered before botulinum toxin treatment?
Special preparation for treatment with botulinum toxin is generally not necessary. Patients should simply avoid blood-thinning medications and substances (e.g., aspirin) for about a week before treatment to minimize the risk of bruising. To determine whether Botox® is the right treatment for the desired result in a specific case, and to provide patients with detailed information about the procedure, an individual consultation with Dr. Bravin-Jumpertz and a thorough examination take place prior to wrinkle treatment with Botox®. During the consultation, patients naturally also have the opportunity to express their questions and wishes.

The benefits of Botox®
Botox® is used in a wide variety of applications. In wrinkle treatment, it is one of the most commonly used treatments – alongside fillers (e.g., hyaluronic acid, Radiesse, autologous fat) – for a fresh and visibly rejuvenated appearance.
The benefits of minimally invasive Botox® injections include, among others:
- No surgery required
- No risks or side effects associated with surgical procedures
- No scarring
- Shorter treatment duration
- No downtime, or at most a very short recovery period
- Biodegradable material (it is possible to gradually achieve the desired result)
- Relatively low treatment costs
During wrinkle treatment with Botox®, the experienced aesthetic medicine physician first determines the injection sites and marks them. Small doses of the active ingredient are then injected directly under the skin using a very fine cannula. The first results are visible after just a few days. The full effect of the injection is reached after about ten days.
Botox® is particularly effective for
- smoothing forehead wrinkles (e.g., frown lines, thinking lines),
- smoothing bunny lines/nasal wrinkles,
- and treating crow’s feet.
Youthfulness for the Neck and Décolletage
In young people, the neck area and the transition to the décolletage are free of wrinkles and bands. With advancing age, the skin and subcutaneous tissue sag due to the natural aging process and the associated loss of elasticity. Skin irregularities form, and the neck bands (platysma bands) become visually prominent. The platysma bands can be relaxed through botulinum toxin therapy, giving the neck a significantly more youthful appearance. To reduce and tighten sagging skin, however, a thread lift is recommended.
Eyebrow correction: A more alert look thanks to botulinum toxin
In the eye area as well, the injection of botulinum toxin A can help achieve a natural, younger appearance. Botox® can not only treat eye wrinkles but also slightly lift the eyebrows. A circular muscle runs above the eye socket, enabling the eye to squint and thus also causing the eyebrow to lower. By weakening this muscle with Botox®, the area relaxes. This results in the eyes being less squinted at rest and the eyebrows lifting slightly. The greater distance between the eye and the eyebrow is often associated with youthfulness.
Other Applications of Botox®
In addition to minimizing expression lines, Botox® treatment is also suitable in the following cases:
- Botox® for excessive sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis)
- Botox® for migraines
- Botox® for spasms (hemifacial spasm)
- Botox® for teeth grinding (bruxism)

In Germany, it is prohibited to publish images showing Botox® before-and-after results. Therefore, unfortunately, no files can be provided on this page. Patients can view a Botox® before-and-after comparison during a personal consultation upon request.
Experience shows that patients are socially presentable again immediately after botulinum toxin therapy. If mild swelling or redness occurs, the treated areas can be cooled to help alleviate the symptoms as effectively as possible. For two to three days, patients should avoid physically strenuous activities, saunas, and tanning beds. Additionally, no makeup should be applied for about twelve hours.
Botulinum toxin is broken down by the body. The duration may vary slightly from patient to patient. Typically, the effects of Botox® treatment last four to six months. For lasting results, the injection treatment can be repeated at the patient’s request as soon as the body has broken down the botulinum toxin and the effect wears off.
Thanks to specialized training and many years of experience in the field of aesthetic medicine, botulinum toxin A treatment at Dr. Bravin-Jumpertz’s practice is a therapy method with minimal risks and side effects. Potential allergies and intolerances can be discussed and tested during the initial consultation. Mild side effects such as redness, slight swelling, bruising, and itching typically subside on their own within a few days.
Adverse effects, such as temporary paralysis in the treated areas or drooping eyelids, are usually the result of incorrect dosing or an improperly administered injection. They generally do not occur when performed by experienced physicians.
