Fat-away injection: Non-surgical injection lipolysis

The fat-away injection (also known as injection lipolysis) is a minimally invasive method for fat reduction. It allows unwanted fat deposits to be reduced gently. The injection solution is administered directly into the area with the unwanted fat deposits. Compared to surgical liposuction, the treatment is therefore much faster and carries fewer risks.

Quick facts

Type of treatment: minimally invasive

Treatment duration: 15–45 minutes

Anesthesia: none, local anesthesia if necessary

Downtime: none

Results: after approx. 6–8 weeks

Duration of effect: permanent

Special features: gentle, non-surgical

Risks: mild swelling, small bruises, redness, tenderness, infections (very rare)

Kosten: starting at € 150

How does the fat-away injection work?

The fat-away injection consists of a special mixture of active ingredients (phosphatidylcholine and deoxycholic acid). The preparation is derived from soybeans and literally causes the fat in the body to melt. It triggers biochemical processes that lead to fat breakdown (lipolysis). These are inflammatory processes that specifically and controllably destroy the unwanted fat cells. These fat cells are then absorbed and eliminated through the body’s own processes.

Who is a good candidate for treatment with the fat-away injection?

Injection lipolysis is suitable for people who are bothered by localized fat deposits that cannot be reduced through diet or exercise. It is therefore a method for harmonious body contouring and optimization. The effect cannot be directly compared to surgical liposuction, nor is the treatment intended for weight loss. If patients wish to reduce excess weight, they must achieve this through conservative methods or with medical assistance, such as a gastric band or similar procedures.

Which areas can be treated?

Injection lipolysis can be used in various areas to reduce unwanted fat. The most common areas of the body include, among others:

  • “Jowls”
  • “Eye bags”
  • “Double chin”
  • Abdomen
  • Hips
  • Waist

What are the advantages of injection lipolysis?

One of the advantages of injection lipolysis is that it achieves fat reduction without surgery. It is therefore particularly gentle and involves a comparatively short treatment and recovery time. Additionally, the general risks associated with surgery are eliminated.

How does the treatment with the fat-dissolving injection work?

During a personal consultation, the patient and doctor determine the treatment areas. At the treatment appointment, the areas are first marked and disinfected. Additional anesthesia is generally not necessary. However, local anesthesia can be administered upon request to further desensitize the treatment areas. The solution is injected into the fatty tissue using a very fine cannula.

Questions and Answers

How long does the treatment take?

The duration of the treatment varies depending on the size and number of treatment areas. Smaller procedures are completed in about 15 minutes; larger treatments take correspondingly longer (about 30–45 minutes).

Is any special preparation required?

No special measures are usually necessary beforehand. Patients should simply avoid taking blood-thinning medications for about a week before the treatment, if possible. If patients take such medications regularly, consulting a doctor is essential in any case.

What should be kept in mind afterward?

Inflammatory reactions can lead to swelling and a slight feeling of tightness. Therefore, it may be advisable to wear loose, comfortable clothing in the first few days that does not press against the treated areas. In addition, physical exertion should be avoided during the first few days. Drinking plenty of fluids and maintaining a healthy diet can positively influence the healing process and the results. Patients should initially protect the treated areas from direct sunlight or UV radiation.

How many sessions are needed?

The number of treatments required depends on various factors. Every body also reacts differently to the treatment. In most cases, one to two treatments spaced two to three weeks apart are recommended to achieve optimal results. For small treatment areas, just one or two sessions may be sufficient to achieve the desired result.

Will I be able to return to social activities right away?

Experience shows that patients can resume their normal daily activities shortly after treatment. Symptoms such as redness, swelling, and mild tenderness are only temporary and generally do not cause significant limitations, allowing patients to return to work the very next day.

What are the risks and side effects of fat-dissolving injections?

In general, fat-dissolving injections are a relatively painless and well-tolerated treatment method when administered properly. Mild discomforts and side effects that may be associated with injection lipolysis include:

  • Infections (extremely rare)
  • Pressure pain
  • Redness
  • Itching
  • Burning
  • Swelling
  • Hematomas
  • Dizziness/circulatory problems
Fat-away injection before-and-after pictures?

In Germany, the so-called German Medicines Act legally prohibits the publication of before-and-after photos of fat-dissolving injections. Therefore, unfortunately, no images can be provided on this page. However, during a personal consultation, interested patients have the opportunity to view anonymized before-and-after photos of the fat-dissolving injection treatment.

When are the results visible, and how long do they last?

The effect does not occur immediately after the injection, as the fat cells must first be broken down and eliminated. These biochemical processes take several weeks, so the results are visible after about six to eight weeks. Since fat cells that have been removed cannot “grow back,” the results are permanent. Nevertheless, you should continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

When should the treatment not be performed?

In general, injection lipolysis is a gentle method. However, certain factors may preclude treatment. A preliminary examination is conducted at the clinic to rule out any contraindications, such as the following:

  • Minors
  • Acute infections or injuries
  • Skin conditions
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Blood clotting disorders
  • Intolerances/allergies to the ingredients used
  • Certain medications
  • Cancer Pregnancy and breastfeeding
How much does body contouring with injection lipolysis cost?

The cost of treatment with the fat-dissolving injection cannot be stated as a flat rate. It depends, among other things, on which areas are to be treated and the extent of the fat reduction required. The number of treatment sessions required therefore also plays a role. During the personal consultation at the practice, the specialist not only explains the treatment process but also discusses the cost estimate for an injection treatment with the fat-dissolving injection with the patient.
