Microneedling: Dermapen® treatment
Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment method used in aesthetic medicine. It is designed to improve skin texture and rejuvenate the skin. During a medical microneedling procedure, the doctor guides a special device (known as a Dermapen®) across the skin. The roller or pen is equipped with numerous tiny needles that create micro-wounds in the skin. This stimulates the skin’s regenerative processes, leading to a lasting improvement in its texture. The device also triggers the production of collagen and elastin, making the skin firmer and more even.
Experienced doctors are also permitted to “needle” much deeper than, for example, cosmetologists. The deeper needle penetration leads to better and longer-lasting results than superficial microneedling.

- Face
- Neck
- Décolleté

- Upper arms
- Legs
- Abdomen
In principle, Dermapen® microneedling can be performed on any area of the body where a rejuvenating effect is desired.
What does microneedling treatment help with?
- Wrinkle reduction (including forehead wrinkles, “frown lines,” crow’s feet, “smoker’s lines,” and upper lip wrinkles)
- Refinement of large pores
- Reduction of sun damage and pigmentation disorders
- Treatment of age spots
- Treatment of scars (e.g., acne)
- Treatment of pregnancy and stretch marks (so-called striae)
- Mild skin lifting effect
How does microneedling work?
Microneedling is performed on an outpatient basis at the clinic. First, the treatment areas are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. The doctor then applies a special gel or ointment to make the treatment areas less sensitive to pain. For medical microneedling, Dr. Bravin-Jumpertz uses the Dermapen 4. She guides the Dermapen 4 over the patient’s skin. The needle length—and thus the depth of penetration—can be manually adjusted to achieve optimal results. Approximately 1,300 punctures are made in the skin per second, creating targeted micro-injuries. To soothe the skin, a calming and moisturizing mask is applied after the microneedling procedure. After about 45 to 60 minutes, the treatment is complete and patients can leave the clinic.

Microneedling: What are the benefits of the treatment?
Among the advantages of microneedling with the Dermapen® are that it is performed without surgery and without anesthesia. The treatment method is therefore very gentle and can easily be performed on an outpatient basis. Downtime is minimal. Additionally, the procedure carries low risk. The Dermapen® treatment promises a lasting improvement in skin appearance. It is effective and achieves good results. Furthermore, it can be combined with other minimally invasive procedures (e.g., hyaluronic acid injections, PRP treatment).
Questions and Answers
If possible, avoid taking blood-thinning medications for about a week before the microneedling treatment to reduce the risk of bruising. Special aftercare is generally not required. To support the effects of microneedling, we recommend using vitamin-rich creams. We would be happy to advise you on this upon request.
To protect against skin irritation and inflammation caused by tiny particles, you should avoid wearing makeup on the day of treatment. However, patients can apply makeup as usual the very next day. We also recommend protecting your skin from direct sunlight in the days following microneedling and using creams with a high SPF.
It is not possible to give a general answer regarding how many Dermapen® treatments are advisable for optimal results. This depends, among other things, on the treatment area and the initial condition (e.g., wrinkle depth). After a thorough examination and analysis, the doctor will discuss with the patient how many treatment sessions are recommended. Typically, between three and six treatments are recommended, with four to eight weeks between each session.
In Germany, the so-called Medicines Act legally prohibits the publication of before-and-after photos of microneedling treatments. Therefore, unfortunately, no such images can be provided on this page. However, during a personal consultation, interested patients have the opportunity to view anonymized before-and-after photos of Dermapen® treatment.
The first positive effects can be seen shortly after the medical microneedling procedure. Skin regeneration and the formation of collagen and elastin, however, take some time. It takes several weeks for the firming and rejuvenating effects of the procedure to become visible. The final results usually appear after one to two months (for mild wrinkles) or after four to six months (for deep wrinkles, scars, etc.).
The results achieved with microneedling treatment are permanent. However, it is important to note that the natural aging process continues. This means that after some time, age-related changes such as sagging skin and wrinkles may reappear. To continue supporting the skin’s youthful appearance, we therefore recommend repeating the Dermapen® treatment once or twice a year to refresh the effects.
Since the treatment uses fine needles and local anesthesia, it is not painful. Depending on the needle length, microneedling can sometimes even be performed without any anesthesia at all. Patients typically feel only a slight pressure or pricking sensation from the device.
The tiny injuries caused by the Dermapen® usually result in mild swelling and redness that last for a few days. Experience shows that patients are socially presentable again after about one to two days. Any redness can be concealed with makeup as early as the following day, if desired.
Microneedling is a comparatively gentle and non-invasive method for natural anti-aging. Any side effects are usually mild, such as temporary redness or swelling. Very rarely, fine nodules may form under the skin, which resolve on their own after some time. Scratches or scars only occur when the procedure is performed improperly by an inexperienced practitioner.
The few contraindications that preclude medical needling include:
- Minors
- Acute inflammation or injuries in the treatment area
- Acute or chronic skin conditions (e.g., psoriasis)
- Certain medications
- Skin cancer
- Certain medical conditions (e.g., cardiovascular diseases)
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
The cost of microneedling with the Dermapen® depends, among other factors, on the size of the treatment area. It is discussed personally with the patient. For a full-face treatment, patients can expect costs starting at 199 euros. At our practice, we offer a package of three treatments for 549 euros.
