Wrinkle Treatment with Radiesse®

Pronounced wrinkles on the forehead and around the mouth can make a face appear stern and older. While some people are not bothered by skin aging and its effects, for others it causes significant distress. Despite their dissatisfaction and discomfort with their own bodies, many people rule out surgical procedures. With the help of minimally invasive wrinkle treatment using Radiesse®, wrinkles can be smoothed out without any surgery. Additionally, the volume of specific facial areas can be increased to harmoniously contour them.

What is Radiesse® and how does it work?

Radiesse® is a synthetically produced dermal filler for wrinkle treatment, consisting primarily of calcium hydroxylapatite dissolved in a gel. These calcium and phosphate ions occur in a similar form in the human body (e.g., in bones and teeth), which is why treatment with Radiesse® is generally very well tolerated. Due to its ability to effectively increase volume, Radiesse® is suitable for correcting deep facial wrinkles and volume loss. The Radiesse® lifting filler is biocompatible, meaning it is completely broken down by the body over time and naturally eliminated.

Who is Radiesse® suitable for?

In principle, treatment with Radiesse® is equally suitable for women and men who are bothered by the signs of aging on their face, neck, décolletage, and hands. Additionally, sunken cheeks can be lifted, and specific facial areas such as the jawline can be given the desired contour. Even minor corrections to the nose can be made with the Radiesse® volume filler.

  • Nasolabial folds (between the nostrils and the corners of the mouth)
  • The frown line (between the eyebrows, also known as the glabellar line)
  • Horizontal thinking lines (on the forehead)
  • Wrinkles on the neck and décolleté

Advantages of wrinkle treatment with Radiesse®

  • No surgery
  • No scars
  • No general anesthesia (at most, anesthetic cream or local anesthesia)
  • No long downtime
  • Very low-pain and low-risk treatment
  • No extensive pre- or post-treatment care required
  • Comparatively short treatment duration
  • Comparatively low cost
  • Biocompatible (naturally degradable) material
  • Long-lasting effect through stimulation of the body’s own collagen synthesis

What is the difference from hyaluronic acid?

Radiesse® consists of calcium hydroxylapatite beads suspended in a gel matrix. The body takes longer to fully break down the substance, which means the effect of the wrinkle treatment also lasts longer. In addition, Radiesse® stimulates the body’s own collagen production, resulting in a lasting improvement in skin structure. Compared to wrinkle injections with hyaluronic acid, Radiesse® can more effectively correct volume loss and is therefore frequently used for harmonious contouring. For lip augmentation, however, Radiesse® is less suitable than thinner substances, which best preserve the natural softness and mobility of the lips.

Questions and Answers

Before Radiesse® wrinkle treatment

There are hardly any precautions to take with Radiesse® treatment. Only the use of medications and substances that may affect blood clotting should be discontinued two weeks prior to Radiesse® wrinkle treatment. This minimizes the risk of hematomas.

A detailed personal consultation is very important for a successful treatment with the desired outcome. Together with the aesthetic medicine expert, patients discuss their motivation for Radiesse® therapy. Based on a careful facial analysis, the expert determines whether Radiesse® wrinkle treatment is the appropriate method in this specific case and explains the treatment process as well as potential risks.

Before-and-after photos of Radiesse® wrinkle treatment?

In Germany, the publication of images showing Radiesse® before-and-after results is prohibited. Therefore, unfortunately, no files on this topic can be provided on this website. Interested patients can get a first impression of the possible results during a personal consultation and, upon request, view anonymized Radiesse® before-and-after photos there.

The procedure for wrinkle treatment with Radiesse®

First, the doctor disinfects the areas of skin to be treated and marks the injection sites. The product is then injected directly under the skin using a fine needle. Anesthesia is generally not necessary. However, the affected skin areas can be desensitized with an anesthetic cream upon request.

A youthful V-shape effect is visible immediately after treatment with Radiesse®. The effect continues to intensify in the following weeks and months. Thanks to treatment with Radiesse®, patients can enjoy a fresher, more vibrant, and rejuvenated appearance without having to undergo surgery with extended downtime.

After treatment with Radiesse®

After the injection of Radiesse®, the treated areas may be slightly reddened and swollen. These symptoms usually subside on their own within a few days. Patients can also support the healing process by applying regular cold compresses. In rare cases, small bruises may form at the injection sites following wrinkle treatment with Radiesse®. These also fade on their own after a short time. In most cases, patients are socially presentable immediately after treatment with Radiesse® and can resume their normal daily routine. In the first few days, the treated areas of the skin should be protected from intense sunlight.

Are there any risks associated with Radiesse® wrinkle treatment?

In general, volume augmentation with Radiesse® is a very well-tolerated method that carries virtually no risks. Since only biodegradable materials that occur naturally in the body are used, allergies and rejection reactions occur only in very rare individual cases. If it is unclear beforehand whether there is an intolerance to the substances used, a test can be performed before the Radiesse® wrinkle treatment if there is any doubt. Mild discomfort such as redness, swelling, and bruising usually disappears within two days at the latest. Lumps or asymmetries are not to be expected when treated by experienced and specially trained physicians.

Is Radiesse® tested and safe?

At Dr. Bravin-Jumpertz’s practice, patient satisfaction and safety are our top priorities. Therefore, we use only approved materials and techniques that are well-established in aesthetic medicine. Radiesse® meets the applicable standards for medical devices in Germany and is also approved by the U.S. FDA. The FDA is considered the world’s strictest regulatory authority for drugs and medical devices.

Is the result of Radiesse® treatment permanent?

In the months following Radiesse® injection, the body’s own collagen production is stimulated. Depending on individual factors, the exact duration of Radiesse®’s effects may vary from patient to patient. On average, the lifting effect of the treatment lasts between 12 and 18 months. In some clinical studies, a duration of up to 24 months has also been demonstrated. Once the body has completely broken down the substance, the effect of the treatment also subsides. At the patient’s request, it is then possible to perform another Radiesse® injection to refresh the results.
